Month after month, the Haiku ecosystem keeps bringing great surprises.

Today, it's a good news about Nvidia's open-source kernel driver, NVRM, which is currently ported to Haiku by X512 along with initial support for the Mesa 3D NVK Vulkan driver.

This breakthrough allows Vulkan tests to run on Haiku using modern Nvidia GPUs (Turing+ only).

Unlike traditional Linux GPU drivers, which are difficult to port due to kernel dependencies, NVRM's platform-independent nature makes it much easier to integrate.

While Nvidia's userland Vulkan drivers remain closed-source, the NVK driver from Mesa 3D provides a nice alternative.

This marks a step toward better Nvidia GPU support on Haiku, bringing improved graphics performance and compatibility for newer GPUs in a near future.

You can follow the latest progresses on this thread from the Haiku community forum.

Stay tuned for further developments !
